SENATOR MATT BRASS,

A Republican, was first elected in November 2016 to a seat in the Georgia Senate representing the 28th District (now the 6th District) which includes Coweta and Heard, as well as portions of Carroll, Heard and Coweta Counties. Senator Brass currently serves as chairman of the Rules Committee, Secretary of the Children and Families Committee, and Ex-Officio of the Natural Resources and Environment Committee. Senator Brass also serves as a member of the Administrative Affairs, Health and Human Services and Regulated Industries Committees. Senator Brass was elected by his colleagues to serve as Majority Caucus Vice Chairman.

 

Senator Brass was raised in Newnan, Georgia, where he attended Newnan High School. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy before attending the University of Georgia. After graduating from college, Senator Brass served as Chief of-Staff to U.S. Representative Lynn Westmoreland (GA-03).

 

In addition, Senator Brass is active in his community where he is a member of the Newnan Rotary and serves on several local boards including Communities in Schools Coweta, Leadership Coweta, and was a past board member of the Coweta Community Foundation and the Newnan-Coweta Habitat for Humanity. He also serves as a Deacon at Newnan Presbyterian Church.

 

Sen. Brass and his wife Maegan have been married for over 15 years and have two sons, Freeman and Archie, and a daughter, Rinny.
